One day while talking to my wife last year we started discussing about our next holiday destination. Finally we agreed to go some where in the hills and valley. We had heard a lot about the natural beauty of North East. Out of 7 state of North East we zeroed down to Meghalaya. Which is also known as "Scotland of the East".
We planned to visit the Meghalaya last year in first week of 'May' . Since children's school was also closing for Summer vacation, it was right time to go there.
Since there was no commercial flight available for Meghalaya, we booked the flight ticket from Hyderabad(Telangana) to Guwahati(Assam) Via Kolkata(W. Bengal) in advance. If you are sure to Visit Meghalaya then you should book the ticket in advance other wise it become very costly during summer time. There are other source of travel also available to Guwahati from different part of India but the most convenient way is Train and Flight. Bus is also available from Siliguri but that is more tiring.
We thought that since we are going in summer, we won't need any warm cloth there. The same advice was given by my friend who had visited there in the month of 'May' previous year. Accordingly we just packed our luggage and kept only normal clothing. After reaching there we found that this was a very wrong decision. The weather there change so quickly that you will be surprised.May be my friend didn't face that of weather previous year. It is advised to pack your luggage with normal as well as warm clothing and at the same time keep some thing to tackle the rain over there.
The further transportation from Guwahati to Shillong(capital of Meghalaya) was arranged by booking a cab in advance. There are plenty of cab service available in the Guwahati for tourist service to Shillong and adjoining place of attraction.That can be booked online as well locally. If you are sure of places which you want to visit there then you must book the cab for whole tour. That will be much cheaper than booking daily cab from Shillong to go to different place. There are many tourist buses also available from Guwahati to Shillong.In my opinion the best way to visit tourist space in Meghalaya is cab where you will have your own control and time to spend as per you wish.
There are plenty of Hotels and Guest house available there. you can book them in advance to avoid any last minute hustle. You can book that even after reaching Shillong. All cab driver knows different Hotels and Guest house and as per you budget they will take you there. you need to negotiate a bit to get good price.
